Trump accuses Obama and Biden of spying on his administration

US President Donald Trump speaks in a wide-ranging interview with Fox News Sundays Chris Wallace.

US President Donald Trump has once again accused his predecessor Barack Obama and former vice president Joe Biden of spying on his administration.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News Sunday, which is set to air, Trump claimed if he were to pull a similar stunt, then he would face "50 years for treason".

In June, Trump said Obama had committed treason in connection with the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 American presidential election.

He repeated his assertion that the Obama administration had "spied" on his 2016 campaign. "Treason. Treason. Its treason."

"Theyd been spying on my campaign," Trump told CBN News. "Turned out I was right. Lets see what happens to them now."

Elsewhere in the Fox News interview, the Republican president compared his mental fitness to Biden, his rival for the presidential election, by claiming that Biden cannot "string two sentences" together and cannot perform as well on a cognitive test either.

"Biden cant put two sentences together. ... They wheel him out. He goes up - he repeats - they ask him questions. He reads a teleprompter and then he goes back into his basement. You tell me the American people want to have that in an age where were in trouble with other nations that are looking to do numbers on us?" Trump said.

Host Chris Wallace then mentioned the cognitive assessment that the president took, saying the questions were not very hard.

"Its all a misrepresentation," Trump said. "Because, yes, the first few questions are easy, but Ill bet you couldnt even answer the last five questions."

Trump insists coronavirus will disappear

Wallace also asked the Republican president about his coronavirus response, playing clips of him saying the virus would soon disappear.

Trump defended himself by saying he would "be right eventually" about the virus going away at the time that over 3,898,500 have been infected and 143,200 died across the United States, making the country the hardest-hit by the virus.

"I will be right eventually. You know, I said, Its going to disappear. Ill say it again. ... Its going to disappear, and Ill be right."

He also said he would not order Americans to wear face masks despite what the countrys top public health official Dr Anthony Fauci highly recommended.

Trump denies Confederate flag is racist

The interviewer also asked Trump about his commitment to defending the Confederate flag, in response to which, Trump said the flag was not a symbol of racism but instead a way for people to honor the South.

"When people proudly have their Confederate flags, theyre not talking about racism," he said. "They love their flag, it represents the South."

Trump has in the past showed he had sympathy for the flag and symbols of the Confederacy of the 1861-65 Civil War.

In the interview, he even threatened to veto any legislation that includes measures to rename military bases named for Confederate leaders.

Trump also threatened to veto Congress National Defense Authorization Act if it contains a provision to remove all Confederate paraphernalia and honors, including their names, from US military bases.

In June, the president said he would not consider renaming a number of military bases that were currently named for Confederate military leaders.

"My Administration will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations," he said in a tweet.
